Tesla Memorial Society of New York is calling all Tesla enthusiasts around the world and people who appreciate what Nikola Tesla did for humanity to help repurchase the Tesla land and property in Shoreham, Long Island, New York. This land was once the site of Tesla's famous Wardenclyffe Tower (Tesla Tower).

The famous Tesla Tower, so called Wardenclyffe Tower, was erected by Nikola Tesla on 1901 -1905 as the first broadcasting system in the world, and transmitting electrical energy without wires to the globe using the Ionosphere (the electrified upper part of the atmosphere of the earth important for transmitting radio waves around the globe). Under the solar radiation, molecoles of the upper atmosphere are being constantly transmitted into ions.

MRI’s are measured in teslas, and thus he takes his place among the pantheon of greats like Watt, Ampere, Volta and Faraday. In 1999, Life Magazine listed Tesla as one of the 100 most important people of the last 1,000 years. Nominated for a Nobel Prize by the same man who nominated Albert Einstein, governors from New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Arizona and Colorado and mayors form New York, Niagara Falls and Cleveland have declared Nikola Tesla day on Tesla’s birthday, and UNESCO has recently listed the Tesla Museum in Belgrade in their Memory of the World Register. Menlo Park, NJ has Edison, Dearborn, MI has Henry Ford and Shoreham, NY has Tesla. His site must be preserved.

To give you an idea of how popular Tesla is, several weeks ago I was on Coast to Coast radio speaking for one hour about Tesla, 1 AM est. By morning my website had 10,000 hits. In the early 1990’s, right before the internet took hold, Tesla was listed in the top ten of people that were searched for in the Encyclopedia Britannica, right along side, JFK, Einstein, Jesus and Elvis! Since the publication of the recent New York Times article, I have had emails from Europe praising our efforts and Australian radio asked me to go on the air to explain why Wardenclyffe should be saved.

President Obama, this is a win win situation for the country, for New York, and the world. By proclaiming the Wardenclyffe site a national monument, we honor our past and we help educate the public. The next step would be to purchase the property and make it a museum which would certainly stimulate the economy and educate at the same time.

An Immediate Threat Against A Major Historical Site
(Tesla's Property and Laboratory in Shoreham, Long Island): A Letter from Timothy Thompson to Governor Patterson of the State of New York
America is concerned about Tesla's historical site designed by famous American architect, Stanford White

There is an immediate threat against a major historical site of arguably the greatest American scientist in human history. A man of Serbian descent, who was pushed from his deserved place in American and World history through greed and neglect, a man who brought the United States and the world away from using coal furnaces and oil lamps in the 1890's. Through his lifetime he gave us technology to create AC Power, the radio, television, robotics, RADAR to mention a few and he lived and died in New York City. He was of the GREATEST thinkers Mankind has ever witnessed. He was Nikola Tesla. But ask anyone today who Nikola Tesla is and usually you get a shrug. He only began changing the technological world to what you see all around you especially in New York, all starting from the Niagara Falls hydro-electric power station he and George Westinghouse built over 100 years ago to distribute AC power, all through Tesla's around 40 patents and personal designs. For without him, New York City would not be as it is, period.

Over 100 years later, NOW THE LAST REMAINING Tesla occupied Laboratory in Shoreham is up for sale by a Belgium based company, AGFA, who should never have owned it since the site should have long ago been preserved as public land by the State of New York and/or the Federal Government. The foreign based AGFA company poisoned the site with toxic chemicals until 1987 before abandoning yet holding onto the 16.5 acres. Just recently has it been cleaned up. Further, the FOREIGN OCCUPIED LAND WITH TESLA'S ONLY LABORATORY WAITS FOR A PRIVATE BUYER TO DEMOLISH EVERY BUILDING as a point of sale!

The site MUST BE SAVED for at least these reasons: for U.S. historical value, scientific and educational value, engineering value toward the future, and for world status reasons as it is wholly an American site. The United States in 100 years has never offered TESLA ANY PLACE IN ITS HISTORY and yet benefitted the most from Tesla's inventions and revealing of information he could have all kept in his memory. Imagine had he never been born or became interested in Engineering? Yet instead, he technologically created the America we inhabit today. For where is Tesla's museum in America to show the world where RADIO originated from? Where did the capability of AC POWER derive? Who invented the first radio controlled robot? Who brought us the foundation for television, radio, RADAR, satellite communications, or the ability to remote control a robot on Mars? Tesla did. And instead of his own museum for all his contributions, Tesla received a plaque at Niagara Falls for his patents and work there on the first GREEN POWER hydro-electric dam and a post-mortem acknowledgement of patent priority for inventing the first designs for radio. Tesla's dedicated museum is in recently war-torn Serbia for God sake, only because he was born there! Yet most of his inventions were on US soil and patented as a US citizen. As a US citizen I am somewhat disgraced at my country's conduct and past handling of not providing his own museum in the U.S.

Yet there in New Jersey, just one slap in the face state away is the Thomas Edison national historic park, the man Tesla fought with for years and disproved regarding building our nation on DC (EDISON) or AC (TESLA) power. Tesla won with his AC power design yet we do not credit him at all. The DC alternative would have brought greenhouse gasses and world pollution to critical levels 50 years sooner had Edison never been challenged. It is simply terrible to treat the greatest inventor in our WORLD's history (since the discoverers of fire and the wheel) with such disrespect as to not even offer him a simple place of rememberance for all he freely gave us to allow others to make TRILLION$ and TRILLION$ off of over the years, building these ruling mega-businesses, making America what it is today. When I discovered and learned about the truth of Tesla a year ago I also discovered there were many around me and out in the world who have no clue who Tesla was, and I am appalled at how America has forgotten who the maker of our modern world was. He was a man who died alone and penniless in New York City where he had lived out the rest of his days watching his well-replicated and built on inventions unfold around him outside his windows, basically having given it to us free of charge.

There is NO TIME TO SPARE and there is NO OTHER viable place with such rich history to have an American based TESLA MUSEUM than at 5 Randall Road Shoreham, NY. At this location a century ago, through JP Morgan before he regretfully pulled funding, Tesla was about to create his GREATEST INVENTION to date which would have been WIRELESS POWER transmitted freely through the air safely like radio waves. Tesla already patented and proved it to work yet was stopped before the tower was completed--it was destroyed by our US government in 1917 for false "security reasons".

Had he built the 187 foot tower to completion at Shoreham 100 years ago, there would likely be no subject of global warming, no need for batteries--no asthma (which I suffer), no need for gasoline in cars or planes or trains or deforestation for ethanol production. Everything could be run off wireless power, distributed without fail (I remember the NYC recent blackouts on the news and their effects). Thank Thomas Edison for the GRID. For without the GRID there would be no worry about solar flares or terrorist attacks to substations or power lines getting cut.

Imagine hurricane Katrina having homes and businesses with wireless power. Pumps failed at the levee for lack of power. Indoor temperatures rose to heat stroke highs without power. At night there was no light to help at all. Unless submerged under water, no one would have been without power then or in any other disasters like earthquakes or hurricanes, snow or ice storms--they would all have power all the time. This is the legacy Tesla left us and I ask after 100 years of nothing done to protect his last standing foothold in America, in New York, "WILL THE MOST POWERFUL MAN IN NEW YORK ALLOW 100 YEARS OF STATUS QUO POLITICS AND LET THIS CRIME HAPPEN TO ONE OF THE GREATEST SCIENTIFIC AND HISTORICAL MONUMENTS TO ONE OF THE GREATEST SCIENTISTS AND INVENTORS IN HUMAN HISTORY--A GREAT AMERICAN INVENTOR?" This final thread of Tesla and America must be preserved for what it stands for.

Already, local legislation has been passed in your state of New York to purchase and FINALLY preserve the land and Tesla building as a national museum and landmark. That was January 29, 2009 but it is appearing there wasn't enough money to buy the land and the offer to protect seems to be stalemated as now it is April and the land still for sale.

THIS IS ALL OF THE WORLDS LAST CHANCE TO FINALLY PRESERVE TESLA'S FINAL STILL-STANDING PLACE OF WONDERFUL INVENTIONS. I worked at FEMA in 2001 and watched in horror when terrorists brought down a great symbol of America in New York. I don't want to see that allowed to happen to another building treasure in New York by this land again selling to any private taker and abandoning it, or further changing the building structure through addons or completely levelling it as a memory. The Tesla Tower, the SYMBOL OF WIRELESS TRANSMISSION OF POWER is already destroyed through lack of protection, ignorance and greed. For America, and all that Tesla is to the United States, it is simply WRONG to allow his place to slip away into nothing.

If you were to plan to build a road you would force-buy the land if needed. Even so, the dumping of toxic waste and poisoning the local water supply and abandonment of the property for 22 years are not strong enough reasons to jurisdictionally allow for the land's preservation?

As you can see from the enclosed flyer, the Wardenclyffe property is up for sale for $850,000. As you can also see, the real estate agents, John O’Hara and Leo Farrell are also planning to “improve” the property by leveling all buildings, which obviously includes Tesla’s lab and the foundation for the tower, which is still in existence (see aerial view).

I spoke to Mr. O’Hara, and he has assured me that when he states “Property can be delivered fully cleared and level,” this does not include the razing of the lab, which was built by the great architect, Stanford White, of McKim, Mead & White. But that does not make me rest any easier.

As a spokesman for the Tesla Society of New York, we have sent a number of letters to various dignitaries such as Governor Paterson of New York, Mayor Bloomberg, Senator Charles Schumer and also President Obama suggesting that they use part of the money from the stimulus package to purchase the property and convert it into a museum to honor both Nikola Tesla and Stanford White (whose home is just a few miles away in St. James). Tesla often stayed at White’s place when he was out at Wardenclyffe.

I am requesting that you suggest to President Obama and/or Governor Paterson that they purchase the land for the state and/or country and convert it into a park and museum. This is a way for us to honor our past and at the same time bring international recognition to one of the technological forefathers well aware of man’s role as steward in the evolution of the planet.

Enclosed, please find Nikola Tesla: The Man Who Harnessed Niagara Falls, a small book I wrote on Tesla’s role in providing clean renewable energy through his invention of the hydroelectric power system. Tesla is the single most important person for slowing down global warming. Without Tesla and his association with George Westinghouse, the 20th century would have evolved with tens of thousands of local coal operated air-polluting electrical power plants instead of the elegant clean energy invention of long distance electrical power transmission which was quickly put in at waterfalls all over the globe. Close friends included John Muir and Robert Underwood Johnson, who, along with Teddy Roosevelt started the Sierra Club. Certainly Tesla should be recognized as a hero in the struggle to advance civilization but do it in a way that is non-polluting and does not sap the Earth of its precious resources.

All I think it would take is one word from you to save Wardenclyffe, and in doing so, honor a giant in the field of invention who resided in American and, according to Life Magazine one of the 100 most important individuals of the last 1,000 years.

The famous Tesla Tower, so called Wardenclyffe Tower, was erected by Nikola Tesla on 1901 -1905 as the first broadcasting system in the world, and transmitting electrical energy without wires to the globe using the Ionosphere (the electrified upper part of the atmosphere of the earth important for transmitting radio waves around the globe). Under the solar radiation, molecoles of the upper atmosphere are being constantly transmitted into ions.

The visit to the Tesla Tower was done with the intention to express our views that the Tesla Tower foundation be designed as a national historical site. There are several Tesla Societies in Long Island today which are formed with the intention to build a Tesla Science Museum in Shoreham, Long Island. Tesla's laboratory was designed by the famous American architect and Tesla's friend, Stanford White. The laboratory is still standing in good condition. In front of Tesla's laboratory, there is a foundation of Tesla's Wardenclyffe Tower which was an enormous structure underground connecting the Tower with the Atlantic Ocean. J.P. Morgan, the richest and most powerful man of that time, was a financier of the Tesla Broadcasting system. The Tower was designed as a world communications center and Nikola Tesla added to the project in that the tower would also be used for transmitting electrical energy without wires to the entire globe. Tesla wanted to saturate the globe with electricity as a dynamo so that everyone on the surface of the globe could obtain electrical light just by sticking wires into the soil and a electrical bulb would light. When J.P. Morgan heard about the Tesla project, he was asked: "How can we get money from the electricity which Tesla is supplying to every part of the world?" After that Morgan cut the funds and the Tower was never finished.

Tesla wanted to bring electricity from the huge resources at Niagara Falls Power Plant and disperse it all around the globe. What a magnificent project it was, however it was never finished. The concept of telephone and telegraph communications, developed by Tesla on Long Island, is still the foundation of today's rapidly growing development of international and intercontinental wireless communications.

The visit to Tesla Tower on June 10, 1990 was so successful that 10 United States Congressmen and one Senator spoke in the American Congress about Nikola Tesla. American Congresswomen Hon. Helen Delich Bentley had a beautiful speech about Nikola Tesla in the US Congress on July 10th 1990, celebrating the 134th birthday of Nikola Tesla.

Plan would create Suffolk museum for physicist Tesla

The former research lab of famed inventor and scientist Nikola Tesla in Shoreham has
taken a step closer to becoming the science center and museum that advocates have
long dreamed of.

Legislation sponsored by Suffolk County Legislator Daniel Losquadro (R-Shoreham) and
passed by the legislature enables the county to begin the planning process to
acquire the 16.2-acre site off Route 25A between Randall Road and Tesla Street.

"We're going to take the lead on this," said Mr. Losquadro. "Everyone has been
saying all along they want this property to be preserved." The move comes nearly two
years after the cleanup of the contaminated site wrapped to a close. The site is
owned by Afga-Gevaert, a Belgian photographic film company.

The county now will contact Afga and begin the appraisal process and discussions to
possibly acquire the property, Mr. Losquadro said. He added that he wants to see the
government be proactive about it, instead of a reactive effort he fears would follow
if an entity offered to purchase the property without preservation in mind.

Jane Alcorn, president of the Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe, the nonprofit
organization formerly known as Friends of Science East, said she is happy to see
some movement toward transforming the 10,000-square-foot former research lab on the
property into a museum.

"We just hope that all the involved parties come to an amicable agreement and allow
this to go forward and become a museum," she said.

The group envisions a museum with a permanent exhibit highlighting Tesla, who
pioneered the alternating current power system and invented radio and the bladeless
steam turbine, which harnessed hydroelectric power at Niagara Falls. Mr. Tesla is
believed by many to be the most important scientist and inventor of the modern age.
His famous Wardenclyffe tower and laboratory in Shoreham were built between 1901 and
1905. The tower was dismantled in 1917.

Ms. Alcorn said she also wants the museum to foster a wider interest in science with
other science-related exhibitions, Saturday science programs, seminars and lecture
series, science-related films and a playground that teaches children about physics
as they play. She would also like to see the museum serve as a community center for
gatherings and meetings.

"The idea is we'd like to have something that's useful for the community as well as
providing scientific education," she said.

Despite the difficult economic times, Mr. Losquadro said the county has dedicated
land preservation funds -- which can't be spent on anything else ¬-- available for
purchasing the site. And now would be a good time to purchase the property, he
added.

"With the economy in a downturn, we have the ability to preserve important lands
when they're worth less," he said.

If the county ends up purchasing the land and the building, Mr. Losquadro
acknowledged that both would require a significant amount of money for restoration
and upkeep and said the county likely wouldn't do more than owning the property.
What he is looking for, he said, is a public-private partnership with the Tesla
Science Center, which would be responsible for the building and developing the site.
He said corporate sponsorships of a museum would also be possible, since Tesla did a
lot of pioneering work with wireless communications technology.

Neither Mr. Losquadro or Ms. Alcorn had an indication of what type of time frame it
might take to acquire the property and turn it into a museum, citing the willingness
of Afga to sell the property to the county. The company is aware of the goal to
purchase the property and turn the research lab into a museum, Ms. Alcorn said. Mr.
Losquadro said the county's planning and real estate departments are now in charge
of the matter and will be contacting the company.
