World officials agree to share
ecology data At a Washington D.C. meeting
in July 2003 about 30 countries around the world agreed to exchange data
and expand monitoring of the earth's atmosphere, oceans and land.
This monitoring of meteorological data is important for farmers all over
the world because it improves forecasting of rains and drought.
Earth observation system will reduce damage from
storms, increase food supplies and decrease damage from threatening wild
fires around the globe. It will also help to understand the causes
and risks of global warming. This international cooperation is very
necessary for the progress of developing countries. President Bush
and his administration committed $25 million as a contribution to
developing countries.
